Being a self employed Business Consultant for the past 13 years in the UK, working from home is not foreign to me, however it may be foreign to many of you who have not had to do it before.
Working from home can be very productive, but you have to put a system in place and you need to be disciplined.
What you may also face if you’re a parent is kids at home, and partners too, as they too will be facing the same predicament. Not going to school/nursery/office etc.
Some of the following may sound ridiculous, but I promise these do work.
➡️ Get up at your normal time, shower and dress for work, just as if you were going to the office
➡️ Create a dedicated space in your house for you too work. Be it a desk or, kitchen table but avoid the sofa.
➡️ Have regular breaks, to simply stretch the legs, make tea/coffee. Use it as a time to reset.
➡️ Time block your day to ensure you achieve your priorities set for the day.
➡️ Walk outside your house, maybe walk the block etc and re-enter straight to the dedicated space.
➡️ Arrange to have a conference call or a virtual meetings with colleagues so you don’t feel too isolated.
➡️ Don’t eat everything in your fridge. Ha ha. You laugh, but this is very common.
➡️ At lunch, leave the house if you can and go for a walk. This helps with breaking up the day and it gives you some exercise. All good for the brain and well being.
Lastly, of you’re feeling lonely, pick up the phone and contact a colleague or use Zoom and have a virtual catch up.
Hopefully these tips have helped you. If you have any of your own, please comment below, so other can benefit.
Till next time
